OUTFIT MINI POST: SIMPLE GRUNGE

The other day, I just happened to go to the James Perse store located in the Brentwood Mart and was drawn to this dress. To me, some of the pieces of the latest collection by Saint Laurent is like "Grunge Chic" and I've been trying to recreate it in a way that still fits my style. This outfit is certainly a toned down, clean and simple version of grunge. To add to the vibe, my hair was tussled and wild. Paired with comfortable ankle boots, this outfit was perfect for a day of errands!

OCTOBER PART TWO

Still in my "October Infatuation" phase, I came about creating this inspirational college by channeling a young Cruella Deville. Didn't you know that....

....before Cruella was a mean women who hated puppies, she was a peculiar girl who was fascinated with monochrome. Below are a few of her favorite things...

OCTOBER, YOU OCTO- COME SOON.

Since summer's ended, I've noticed more and more Halloween-inspired (intentionally or unintentionally) clothing popping up online and spooky decor in stores but maybe that's just because I'm always thinking of the creepy and the fantastical. I know September's still here but I found myself creating collages aimed towards the magical month of October.

CASUAL ERRANDS' DAY-MINI OUTFIT POST

The other day I was swamped with errands with my husband. I feel like there's no reason to look nice even if you're just picking up a few things at Costco.

BELL(E) OF CANYON COUNTRY

Last Sunday, my husband and I had to venture out of our comforts by the foggy sea and into Canyon Country (where summer is still alive and kicking) for our friends' birthday party. This particular dress has been in my closet for several years now, I think eight to be exact. I purchased it at the time because I admired how casual the girl at Marc Jacob wore it. She wore it with shorts and a pair of scuffed up Converses. She looked fashionable and cool and I wanted to replicate that look but I could never find the guts to actually wear it. The dress screams "celebration" and "fun" so I thought it would be appropriate to bring it out for a birthday and I have to tell you, despite the 96 degree heat, I felt pretty damn cool.

Thumblina Goes to a Colorful Fiesta!

On Saturday, I went to a colorful fiesta themed party in honor of one of my favorite couples. The invitation arrived a few weeks ago, dressed perfectly in monochromatic purple. It suggested that everyone arrive in "colorful attire." Being a sucker for themes and requests, I've been planning my outfit for two weeks. All I knew was that I had to find the most colorful outfit that was also...cool.  (It was 90 degrees in the Valley, like as if!)
The day of, I still didn't have a clear picture of what I wanted to wear. I chose my Christian Louboutin espadrilles because, those ribbons are the definition of "festive." For hair, the milkmaid was perfect. To up the ante, I chose to put the flower bobby pins again in my hair. This look reminds me of "Thumblina." I certainly feel like a pixie wearing it. For the outfit, I went with a bubblegum crop top and vintage yellow skirt made by JAX (my father's brand.) All summer long, I've been wanting to break out a lovely find from Jenni Kayne--a kiss infested clutch that would wake up several "sleeping beauties."
The party was a hit and I felt right at home among the colored banners and animal pinatas. With a belly full of tacos, I went home with a smile, love in my heart for my dearest friends and a new pet that I dubbed "Leo." Ole!

Snow (White After Labor Day)

Summer may be over, but the heat isn't. In celebration of my recovery, I decided to go all out today with whites and color. Crop tops and bralets have been on my list this year-my favorite so far is by Jill Stuart. With my freshly altered Alaia skirt (did I curse the gods altering it to fit?) I broke out my Louboutin Espadrille wedges and headed into Beverly Hills. Hi ho, hi ho, off to shopping I go!

Fun floral bobbi pins turns my milkmaid braid into a garden.

MINI HAIR INSPIRATION+TUTORIAL

MINI HAIR INSPIRATION + TUTORIAL

Hair. It's always been one of my favorite things on a woman and being a woman. I always remember the mermaids in "Peter Pan" sunning and working on their hair while on their rocks. There's nothing like that feeling of combing through freshly washed hair and styling it to your liking. For most of my life, I've had long hair but I wasn't always allowed to style it the way I wanted to. For many years, I had to wear my hair in a tight braid or pony tail. I vowed that when I was older, I'd always wear it down. Now, that I am older, I realize that "down" isn't always fun. Sometimes, you need a little extra for that "wow" factor. Lately, I've been into floral crowns, headpieces and milkmaid braids. Of course, fresh bangs are always a must.

(Sharply cut bangs curled and clean are always important.)

This summer, I found a new way to style my hair--the milkmaid braid. A couple of my friends have asked me how to do the hairstyle and some suggested that I make a YouTube tutorial. I decided, why not? I've included it below.
